Play Pocket

A sculptural cube creating spaces for playful exploration

The Play Pocket is a public space foray into access to dailiness of play in everyday life. Conventionally, the opportunity index of play limits one to playgrounds and isolated initiatives intended for children. The Play Pocket is a ‘pocket’ that can find its new relations and a place in any urban experience. The Play Pocket emancipates the idea of play from playgrounds. With an ability to transcend contextual limitations of a site, it is a spatial alternative and opportunity to take it to the public domain. A reimagining of the expression of places for play and making them more visible and integrated as a spatial identity at a city and neighbourhood level.

Beyond geographical constraints, Play Pocket can travel to different sites in the public networks – from large squares and facilities, smaller city niches to learning centers; adapting movement and form with any ability to settle in as ‘pocket’ of the city anywhere.

The Play Pocket is a spatial motif that breaks away from the defined edges of the cube and expands to reveal a play sculpture. The emphasis is on perceiving the cube in relationship to play and space – as a place for

endless exploration.
