The Merit List [TML]

Biennial Architecture Award and Critical Review

The Merit List [TML] is an initiative by Matter and supported by Takshila Educational Society to recognise projects of critical relevance in the context of contemporary architecture of India. Constituted as a peer-to-peer review and award in 2015.

With a two-year cycle, The Merit List seeks to institute a line of inquiry that traverses typology to make place for exceptional ideas in design. Venturing beyond the concerns of form and space, The Merit List Process engages with the potential of the rich cultural landscape of India, often addressing complex and multidimensional issues, that broaden the boundaries of programmatic frameworks.

Over the course of six cycles till date, we have received more than 2000 entries submitted by architects, designers, NGOS and Government establishments. At its core, the evaluation maintains a spirit and rigour of a dialogue and debate and the final list is arrived by consensus between the members of the jury.

The Merit List is supported through an endowment by the Takshila Educational Society.

With a focus on India and its contemporary architectural landscape, The Merit List invites submissions and nominations for projects over a five-month cycle. The timeline of each cycle is anchored around these dates, 15 th August, 2 nd October and 26 th of January.

The next cycle of The Merit List is open for submissions from 15 th August to 26 th January.
