The Indian Patent Stone (IPS) was, until the 1990, omnipresent flooring type across India. Made by mixing metal-oxides with a combination of grey and white cement, the labour-intensive floor is losing its appeal in the mainstream construction industry. The IPS documentation by Matter focusses on chronicling the process of making of these tactile floors. By observing and discussions with master-masons led by Kothandan Enba, the document attempts to understand the tacit and explicit processes behind making of pigmented IPS floors. The study also attempts to understand the science behind the flooring process.
