Designed on an 11 x 56 meter footprint, the ‘Sangat’ building at Parivartan is an extension to the existing campus. A housing with four dormitories, common facilities, rooms for faculty and an assembly hall on the narrow site. By moving the structure away from the skin of the E-W oriented building, an attempt was made to create a continuous buffer space to mitigate heat and provide students with spaces to work, chat and find solitude. The 4 x 4 meter column grid enables the design to accommodate future changes in program and flexibility of use. The ‘kit-of-parts’ windows help in standardisation without subscribing to monotony. The roof helps in passive cooling and the brick jaalis are designed to let the breeze flow across the building.
